Barn as a Balancing Act

Here in Los Angeles, there are a plethora of amazing houses precariously perched on the hillsides of Hollywood, Pacific Palisades and Malibu. Striking to look at, the thought "earthquake" is never far from one's mind, however.

But earthquakes aren't a likely problem for the Balancing Barn. Built by MVDRV of Rotterdam and British firm Mole Architects, the cantilevered house resides in Suffolk, England (a considerably low risk earthquake zone). Incredibly, more than 50% of the 30 meter long structure is suspended in air! Click through for more details on the project.
