The GE and Hotpoint front serviceable washing machine agitator coupler is the part that makes the agitator work. This bell coupler is attached to the transmission shaft with a center bolt, the agitator is attached to the coupler. If the problem that you're having is that the washing machine won't agitate, this is the procedure you need to follow to find a problem.
Remove the front panel, fill the washer with water on the lowest level, activate the door switch agitation, check the belt, and the transmission pulley. If these parts are working OK, then you'll need to check the agitator coupler.
Remove the agitator .
Remove the screw from the bell coupler.
Inspect the splines in the middle of the bell coupler, if they are worn out replace it with a new part.
This is a view of the top of the bell coupler, the lines marked with the arrows should mate with the lines in the agitator.
Warnings
- Make sure that the washer is unplugged from the wall outlet before doing any work on it
