The video is a description of how to refurbish a brass door frame, and door knob that has gone dull due to the lacquer. Purchase lacquer and metal polish at a hardware store. Before beginning work, remove the circulate at the back of the door knob with circulate pliers. Take the component parts of the door knob apart and set the spring and clip aside to be replaced later. Take a clean cloth and put metal polish on it. Using the cloth, polish the knob. It may take a while to get all the grime off. To speed the polishing process up, the instructor uses a polishing disc fitted onto an electric drill. Cover the knob with metal polish, then buffer the polish off with the polishing disc on the drill. Make sure to use a drill that you can manually control, so that you have better control of the tool.
The base plate still has remaining lacquer, so the instructor uses a rubbing compound, purchased at a body shop, to rub the lacquer off of the plate. Using a clean cloth, rub the compound over the plate. Once the lacquer has been rubbed completely off, polish the plate in the same manner as the knob.
Once polished, use a metal lacquer purchased at a body shop to re-lacquer both the finger plate and door knob. Make sure to read the instructions beforehand. Shake the canister. Elevate the plate from the work surface, and give it a light coating of lacquer. Do the same with the back plate and knob itself. Leave them for 15 minutes before giving a second coat. Let dry for 24 hours. Re-assemble the door knob, and then replace the plate and door knob back onto the door.
