Wall framing. How to frame a wall. Whether you're re-sheeting an old wall or building a new timber frame wall, before you install the plasterboard or drywall, take the opportunity to have a really good think about what services or insulation qualities you might want to have in that space. There are issues to consider like electrical, plumbing, noggins for wall fixtures and insulation.

Here are just a couple of other things worth noting.

Insulation for your walls.:

The R rating for walls (which is a rating given to insulation batts) varies from state to state here in Australia, but generally speaking you would go for an R1.5 up to an R2 in the cooler states.

Noggins:

Off cuts are generally used for noggins. Don't waste the good straight material on them.If l have a badly bent stud that l don't want to use for a normal stud l'll just cut noggins out of that. Normally l use 90mm x 35mm or 70mm x 35mm pine.

When putting in noggins to hang a plasma tv off, make sure you really secure those noggins in well. If you have any hardwood laying around that would be good to use.

*Please Note* The heights l gave in the video for towel rails and toilet roll holders was from the top of the tiles. You will need to add extra to those measurements if you're measuring from the slab to allow for a layer of screed (around 20mm) and for tiles and glue which is around 10 to 15mm. In round figures, add about 30mm to the heights l gave in the video. Of course it's all personal choice. You can have the heights where ever you want.

Electrical:

If you do want to hang a TV off the wall, don't forget to position your TV aerial outlet and power point behind where the TV is going to be positioned to avoid any unsightly cables being visible. Extra power points are also good, especially these days as we have so many electrical devices.
